I always feel this time of the year is a major opportunity to review what is really important. What would make your life categorically better? What is your idea of living well? Children are back to school, the weather is changing, and before all the holiday craziness begins we have a window of time to really look at our lives and see what is working for us and what isn’t. What I love to think about is: What do I want more of…?
More time to spend with family and close friends? More travel? More romance? More work? There is always the issue of time. My life was becoming too much about work. I love what I do but needed to rebalance. So I had to make my list. How to fit it all in is the trick. But life is way too short to miss those things that make you happiest. Please do not think that this list thing is going to take you too long. If you don’t think you have a spare minute to do this- you really need to do it. Organizing by your priorities can help wishes become a reality. There is a magic in writing things down that actually makes them happen. What are your priorities?
For example, if you have a dining room or kitchen that you would like to have dinner in, and there is too much stuff in the room for you to imagine serving dinner, write it down! It can be something as simple as, “I want to have dinner at least once on this table with my friends or family by next week”, then slowly take the steps to make a clearing for that to happen. And invite your friends!
If you want a partner, are you allowing space in your home for another person? Are there 2 chairs at the table? Two bedside tables? Two lamps on those tables?
Intention is a powerful thing. And by clearing the space you will send yourself and the universe your particular message.
For me # 1 on my list was about wanting to have time to read a book, preferably fiction. It turns out that made me feel like I was on vacation without actually going on vacation. It gave me a creative and emotional break from working .
Be easy with yourself. Old patterns are hard to break. Setting your intention for what you want and what your ideal is, is the first step.
We start moving our activities inside this time of year so now is a great time to take a good look around and see if this is a place where your life can unfold the way you want it to. Can you break the pattern that led to you not taking the time to make your life what you want it to be? What is that 1st ideal on your list?
